Lingard on the Saints

“St Helens have been renowned in their defence. “

“We have a bit of confidence from how we have been playing these last few weeks and we need to use that to our advantage and come out firing. The first 10 minutes of the game are going to be key. We need to pressure them with them coming off a defeat.”

Opposition view

Coming off the back of a loss, St Helens will look to bring a strong squad and bounce back with a win. Defeat last time out to Hull KR leaves them still 3rd by point difference and level with leaders Wigan.

The Squads

Castleford Tigers: Sam Wood, Innes Senior, Danny Richardson, Jacob Miller, Liam Watts, Paul Mcshane, Elie El-Zakhem, Alex Mellor, Joe Westerman, Liam Horne, George Griffin, Rowan Milnes, Josh Hodson, Cain Robb, Brad Martin, George Hill, Fletcher Rooney, Louis Senior, Tex Hoy, Corey Hall, Sam Eseh.

St Helens: Jack Welsby, Tommy Makinson, Waqa Blake, Mark Percival, Jon Bennison, Jonny Lomax, Lewis Dodd, Daryl Clarke, Matty Lees, Sione Mata’utia, Joe Batchelor, Moses Mbye, James Bell, Curtis Sironen, Jake Wingfield, George Delaney, Ben Davies, Sam Royle, Konrad Hurrell, Tee Ritson, Noah Stephens.

Ones to Watch

Jack Welsby

The youngster has cemented his position at the Saints and will look to continue to impress. Having been shortlisted for the man of steel for his second time in 2023 Welsby will be looking to add some more silverware to his collection.

Jonny Lomax

The Saints club captain Jonny Lomax pulls the strings with his excellent rugby brain and explosive speed. He is an England and Great Britain International and has been an essential member of the Saints side.

Tommy Makinson

Making his return to the squad this week prolific try scorer Tommy Makinson will surely look to make an impact. Tommy topped the try scorer list in 2019 and has shown his kicking ability consistently having kicked four goals to secure St Helens fourth straight Super League title in 2023.
