Young and promising Loose Forward Woody Walker was invited to train with the first team squad to assess how he’s looking and as a reward for his hard work in the first few weeks of the Academy pre-season schedule.

It is an opportunity for Woody to gain valuable experience in a first team environment alongside playing with the academy, and see how the professionals go about their business.

“I’ve had my first session with them now. We started with a bit of prehab and stretching, and then come on to the field and done some conditioning blocks. It’s a reward for working hard in the first few weeks of academy pre season and an experience to get in with these guys and sponge from them and learn some new stuff.”

“These guys have been and done it at the top level and done it week in week out in Super League so they’ve got a lot of tips for me and a lot to teach me.”

Lee Radford has made no secret that he wishes to bring young talent to the forefront of the future of Castleford Tigers. Working with a top coach like Lee is a chance that Woody is relishing.

“He’s just come out of a World Cup final so it’s pretty amazing to be coached by Radders.”

Woody is also really pleased to be part of the academy that has recently been awarded its Elite status and he believes it is justified by the mentality around the pathway setup.

“It’s what the club deserves, and it really feels like we’ve got elite aspirations so it’s good to see that we have an elite label to go with it.”
